The Dominican Province of the Philippines joyfully congratulates Br. Valentinus Bayuhadi Ruseno, OP, on the successful defense of his dissertation at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, commonly known as the Angelicum, in Rome. His dissertation, entitled “‘The Holy One of God’ in Mark 1:24: A Lens to Understand Jesus’ Relation to the Law of Purity in the Gospel,” examines the identity and mission of Jesus in the Gospel of Mark, particularly in relation to the Jewish laws and traditions concerning ritual purity.

This successful defense marks an important milestone in Br. Bayu’s academic and religious formation. His study reflects the Dominican commitment to the serious study of Sacred Scripture and the pursuit of truth in service of the Church. By exploring the title “The Holy One of God” and its significance within Mark’s Gospel, his research contributes to a deeper understanding of how the evangelist presents the holiness, authority, and saving mission of Jesus.

We give thanks to God for sustaining Br. Bayu throughout his years of research, study, and preparation. We also recognize the professors, formators, confreres, family members, and friends who accompanied and supported him in this important undertaking. May the knowledge and insights gained through his studies continue to enrich his ministry and bear abundant fruit in the Order’s mission of preaching the Gospel for the salvation of souls.

Please keep Br. Bayu and all our brothers in formation and studies in your prayers, that they may persevere faithfully in their vocation and continue to grow in wisdom and holiness.
